Wastewater Treatment System

Siemens S7-200 PLC-Based Wastewater Treatment System

Introduction

This article presents a comprehensive overview of a wastewater treatment system designed to process 500 cubic meters of wastewater per day. The system leverages Siemens S7-200SMART PLC technology to automate and control the entire treatment process. We integrate various instrumentation, chemical dosing systems, and process tanks to ensure optimal water quality.

Wastewater Treatment System

System Overview

The wastewater treatment system consists of several key components, including:

  • Siemens S7-200SMART PLC
  • 15-inch HMI
  • 4G remote module
  • 3 sets of instruments (pH meters, ORP meter)
  • 7 sets of dosing systems
  • Various process tanks (pH adjustment tank, arsenic reaction tank, coagulation tank, flocculation tank, etc.)

Wastewater Treatment Process

The wastewater undergoes a multi-stage treatment process:

  1. Preliminary Treatment
Wastewater enters the pH adjustment tank, where we adjust the pH by adding acid and alkali.
  2. Arsenic Removal
Next, we transfer the wastewater to the arsenic reaction tank to remove arsenic.
  3. Coagulation and Flocculation
In the coagulation and flocculation tanks, we add chemicals to form larger particles, making sedimentation easier.
  4. Sedimentation
The solid particles settle at the bottom of the tanks, while the clarified water moves to the next stage.
  5. Filtration
The clarified water undergoes filtration through quartz sand and activated carbon to remove impurities.
  6. Disinfection
Finally, the treated water is disinfected before being discharged.

Automation and Control

The Siemens S7-200SMART PLC plays a crucial role in automating the entire treatment process. It monitors various process parameters, controls dosing pumps, and manages the overall system operation. The 15-inch HMI provides a user-friendly interface for operators to monitor and control the system.

Benefits of Automation

Automation offers several benefits to the wastewater treatment process:

  • Improved Efficiency: Automated systems can optimize process parameters, reducing energy consumption and chemical usage.
  • Enhanced Reliability: Automation minimizes human error and ensures consistent treatment performance.
  • Remote Monitoring: The 4G remote module enables remote monitoring and control of the system.
  • Data Logging: The system can collect and store data for analysis and troubleshooting.
